What I do with people

I take people walking. In Liguria almost every day — the Parco di Portofino, the Cinque Terre, the hinterland — and elsewhere in the world whenever there is a trip: the Sahara, Ladakh, Ethiopia, Iran, Jordan, Patagonia, the North Cape, Kyrgyzstan, Tanzania.

I am a qualified Environmental Hiking Guide and Tourist Guide, and an official guide of the Cinque Terre National Park, the Genoa Aquarium and the Galata Museo del Mare. I am also a qualified lifeguard, with BLS and BLS-D certificates.

What I try to do, as we walk, is explain the place we are in: how it is put together, why it is like that, who came through before us. Having studied history, that comes naturally, and it is usually the part people remember.

What I have climbed

I started with day walks and multi-day treks, often alone and self-sufficient, and then moved into mountaineering. I have about ten Alpine 4,000ers behind me, including Mont Blanc, in July 2021.

I took part in an expedition on the north side of Elbrus (5,642 m), in Russia. In July 2024 I reached the summit of Peak Lenin, 7,134 metres, in Kyrgyzstan, after Yukhin Peak (5,130 m) and Razdelnaya Peak (6,148 m).

I am now preparing for an eight-thousander without supplemental oxygen: that is Project 8000.

The sea is part of the same thing: I go out by kayak along the coast and I dive in the Mediterranean. Before all of this I spent many years as a football goalkeeper, in Serie D in Italy and in the top division in Malta.

What I studied

After a classical secondary education I took a degree in History and Historical Sciences at the University of Genoa, with honours. I published a book on the history of cryptography, Crittografia e crittoanalisi (Aracne), with a preface by Davide Arecco, and I hold a doctorate in Law and Human Sciences.

I still work at it: in November 2024 I sat on the organising committee of the conference on Francesco della Rovere between Savona and Padua.

Io sto con AIC

I have been coeliac since I was 18 months old. In 2019 I was the face of the «Io sto con AIC» 5x1000 campaign, and AIC is now a partner of Project 8000.
